Title: Sugarless' Weapon
Post by: Reiga on October 24, 2011, 10:29:26 AM
Why is it that Sugarless' power shots look like spears when he wields a broadsword(I think that's the right weapon)?

There's a name for it, but I don't quite remember.

But yeah, could you explain why his power looks like spears?

I thought I already answer that, it's a big sword bullet, not a spear.

If you want further details into design aspect, it's because if we stay with the broad-sword which is long, then the collision area would have to be rectangle. The sword can rotate in any 360 degree, so it would be rotate-rectangle. Other bullets and character hit area are circle, which we use circle vs circle collision detection. If we introduce rectangle, then it would have to be circle vs circle and rotated rectangle vs circle.

At the time we make the game, we don't want to spend more time on implementing rotate rectangle physics since the dead line was tight, so we make a sword where the height isn't much different from the width, so that the hit area can be estimated by the circle shape.

Also, the weapon he holds and the weapon you shoot doesn't necessary have to be the same thing. The swing of his broad sword create shock-wave like bullet as you can see in his normal attack. The big chubby sword shape is what he use his energy to create, not from his broad sword.

Is it a Zweihänder  sword (Siegfried from soul calibur) or one of these names you are looking for http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/016/d/d/FF7_Cloud_Strife__s_Swords_by_SOLDIER_Cloud_Strife.jpg (http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/016/d/d/FF7_Cloud_Strife__s_Swords_by_SOLDIER_Cloud_Strife.jpg)  (Cloud from final fantasy)?

Doesn't Zweihander means two-handed sword, just in German? :D

So I guess it's a generic two-handed sword :3

That's how big is the sword. I haven't seen or tired to carry one. I bet it's real heavy. it would be hard carry by one hand.

He wields the sword the bullets are patterned after in both of his artworks, and the description I wrote on the wiki was that it's a broadsword. A claymore is an example of a broadsword, but Sugarless' is a lot like that of Siegfried's or Cloud's.

I thought the large bullets in his attacks from the first game were spears until I was taking screens and saw they were his sword. lol

I think Zweihander IS the name for a sword... either that or TONS of RPGs and fantasy games have it wrong!   ;D

Also there's the Claymore, a large, two-handed sword. Either one could be Sugarless' weapon.

Speaking of sword and sword attacks reminded me of Bleach... Not sure if I would like to see a BANKAI from Sugarless! :o
